After three decades on the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Faculty at Georgia Tech, Pete joined the University of Alabama in 2023 as the Executive Director of the Engineering Entrepreneurship Program. He spent several years teaching courses in Georgia Tech's CREATE-X entrepreneurship program, and serving as a faculty advisor to CREATE-X and the InVenture Prize invention competition. Pete's research into the application of humor to improve technical education, innovation and communication has also been applied to improve entrepreneurial creativity in STEM students. He is currently developing a quick path to technical innovation and entrepreneurship consisting of a 9 credit hour certificate to give technical innovators the appropriate background for entrepreneurship. These students will interact with other extra-curricular activities on campus to help launch their enterprise.
Pete earned his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering at the University of Illinois and M.I.T. respectively. After post-doctoral stints at IBM, NASA and the ETH-Zurich, he spent several years as the Polymer Product Manager for Molecular Simulations Inc. (now owned by Dessault Systems) before joining the faculty at Georgia Tech. Pete is adjunct faculty in the Dept. of Chemical and Biological Engineering. He is a SCUBA Instructor and very interested in working with fellow divers at the University of Alabama to share this amazing activity.
